Well, here we are, almost at the end of February.  Spring is almost upon us!  :) 


Please see below for my upcoming spring classes.  If you are a new participant in my classes, I'm currently running a promotion and you get your first class FREE!  And of course, not to leave out the lovely ladies who have come out to my classes in the past, if you sign up for the March & April session, you will also receive a class for free.   Minimum 10 prepaid participants required to run this program.

Please know that ALL of my classes are "judgement free!".  This means you can be yourself, and laugh and sweat, and nobody is judging you.  Do you sometimes fall over doing a walking lunge?  That's fine - I've done that myself :)  Are you worried you may fall off the stability ball during our stability ball fitness class?  Don't worry, you won't be the first, or last person to do it!


I'm so lucky to have such a great group of ladies who come out, we are just all there to sweat, burn calories and tone up while having fun.

NEW!! Mom & Baby Fitness Classes starting!

I've had a few people ask about Mom & Baby fitness classes.   I'm so pleased to be able to offer this program in Atwood, at the Elma Memorial Community Centre beginning this Wednesday January 30 at 10.30am.   Please note the Feb. 13 date will be held at the Monkton arena.   Thanks so much to Amy and the folks at North Perth Parks and Recreation for helping me put this together.

Our scheduled classes thus far are:

Wed Jan 30 in Atwood
Wed Feb 6 in Atwood
Wed Feb 13 in Monkton (small meeting room)
Wed Feb 20 in Atwood
Wed Feb 27 in Atwood

All classes are from 10.30am - 11.30am and will include a warm up & cool down

Atwood classes will be held at the Elma Memorial Community Centre and the Monkton Class will be held at the Monkton Arena

5 classes (preregistered & prepaid) at $8/class = $40 or $10 to drop-in

Classes are suitable for beginners, and all exercises can be modified to be made easier or more difficult depending on your preference. 

Please bring toys or exersaucer, stroller, blanket, etc. so your baby is as comfortable as possible!  Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Summer is just around the corner!  That's why I've designed this 60 day program to help you reach your fitness and nutrition goals before summer arrives.  Join me for some fun fitness classes and an enlightening and inspiring nutrition seminar after our first class to help you get on the right track.  Weekly weigh-ins are optional, as are food and activity logs.  I will be recommending fitness homework for you to do a few times a week to boost your results.

Here it is, the middle of February already!  If you've been coming out to the Monday and/or Wednesday classes this session, I hope you've been enjoying them.

I'm planning to change things up a little for March and April, to keep things fresh and exciting.  Please see the flyer below for details, and feel free to email or call me with any questions!

NORTH PERTH GROUP FITNESS

JANUARY & FEBRUARY 2012

Hi Everyone,

Hopefully you're all enjoying a fantastic holiday season so far!  

I'm so excited about this New Year ahead!  I love a fresh start.  There's something about opening that fresh new calendar and planning your important events into it, birthdays, holidays, etc.  While you're putting those important events in the calendar, take a minute and schedule your fitness goals.  Schedule it into your day as a priority and promise yourself you will stick to your plans.  It's easy to get off track, but I promise you will feel better about yourself if you stay on track and accomplish what you have planned.

If you want a few tips for nutrition goals for yourself, scroll down to the bottom of this post (after the flyer) for some ideas.  Feel free to ask me or email me if you have questions.

As usual, payment can be made with cash or cheque.  If you are interested in paying with PayPal, that's no problem.  Just email me and I can email you a link where you can make your payment online using your PayPal account or a credit card.  

I'm looking for a minimum of 10 participants for each class to run, so please let me know as soon as you can if you are able to join us for one of the sessions.  Thanks!  :)

CLASSES ARE DESIGNED WITH BEGINNERS AND ADVANCED PARTICIPANTS IN MIND - ALL EXERCISES CAN BE MODIFIED TO MAKE THEM EASIER OR MORE DIFFICULT, DEPENDING ON WHAT WORKS FOR YOUR NEEDS.

For each class, you will need to bring a yoga mat, towel and water to drink.  On the Wednesday night classes, please bring a stability ball.  Let me know if you don't have one, I have some spares and I'll bring you one.

NOTE:  Our Monday night circuit class is being revamped to include lots of fun moves that will get your heart pumping and make the workout fly by.  

If you are a beginner, and a little self-conscious - NO WORRIES!  These classes are all judgement-free zones.  I'm glad to say that I have a super-friendly bunch of women who come out to my classes, and they are all fun-loving, supportive and very friendly too.  :)

NUTRITION TIPS FOR YOUR NEW YEAR!  Here are some very simple New Year's Resolutions you can try.  Let me know how you make out!
1.  Skip the pop.  Even diet soda drinkers tend to weight more than non-soda drinkers.  Drink water instead - 8-10 glasses per day.
2.  Increase your fibre intake.  This is something that can really make a difference.  It can keep you feeling full, reduce cravings, and is proven to help you lose weight.  Aim for 25 grams per day (keep track!) and be sure to have your 8-10 glasses of water per day since the fibre absorbs water and otherwise you can experience some tummy troubles...  :(
3.  Eat breakfast within 15 minutes of waking up (or as soon as you possibly can).  This kick-starts your metabolism and gets your day off to the right start.  My favourites are steel cut oats with fruit and nuts, or a high-fibre cereal (ie. Fibre One)

I hope you like the little cartoon!  Don't stop believing!  :)

Wow!  Here we are at the end of October.  I hope you all had a great autumn!  Halloween is right and around the corner, and Christmas is exactly two months from now.  


If you haven't seen my Facebook posts, I just want to let you know that because it is In Motion Month in North Perth, I will be running a FREE fitness class in Atwood at the Elma Memorial Community Centre this Sunday, October 30th, from 6-7pm.  I'd love to fill the Community Centre - so please let everyone know, and bring your neighbours, family and friends!  Also, bring a yoga mat, a towel, and water to drink.  See you then!  :)

Many of you have been asking about my November and December fitness schedule, so, without any further delay... here it is!  Just scroll down to the bottom of this post to see it.

I know, it's only the beginning of August, but since I had to get my classes scheduled in time to make it into the North Perth Parks and Recreation Community Calendar, I figured I may as well share them with you all so you can start planning your September/October schedule...

HOLIDAYS
Below, please see the flyer for the upcoming program.  I'm taking a week for vacation at the end of September, so you will see there are no classes scheduled during that time.  Also, Thanksgiving falls on Monday October 10th, so, no class that day. Halloween is on a Monday too - we'll take that night off.  I'm also taking Wednesday October 19th off, since I'M TURNING 40 THAT DAY!!  Yikes!  I think I definitely need that day off!


IT PAYS TO REGISTER IN ADVANCE
Please note that for those of you who register in advance, you will see a 20% savings from paying on a drop in basis.  In advance, you can sign up for all the Monday classes, all the Tuesday classes, or all the Wednesday classes.  Or all of the Monday and Tuesday...or all of the Monday and Wednesday - you get the idea - whatever works for you!  Paying in advance works out to $8/class, if you choose to drop in to the classes instead of paying in advance, then the cost is $10/class.  

RUN FOR THE CURE

You may remember from my last post that I'm putting a team together for the Run for the Cure!  This is a 5k that gives you a run or walk option.  The date is Sunday October 2nd, and it is held at Bingeman's in Waterloo.  It truly is a lot of fun, and obviously it supports a fantastic cause, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.  I've had many of you tell me you're interested already.  If you're thinking about joining us or if you have questions, please let me know.

NORTH PERTH GROUP FITNESS - CLASSES FOR MAY AND JUNE - 2011


Our May and June classes are all well underway, and I just realized I haven't updated the website, (oops!) so here goes!

Monday Night Classes - Atwood
This class is a circuit class.  We have about 15 stations set up for different exercises including, stability balls, Bosu, medicine balls, bodybar, dumbells, trampoline and bodyweight and cardio exercise stations, just to mention a few! You will spend 2 minutes per station and do 2 different exercises (one minute each) at each station.  The great thing about this class is that everyone can go at their own pace and customize the exercises to meet your own individual needs.  You will definitely work up a sweat (or glow!)
The remaining Monday class dates are May 30 & Monday June 6, 13, 20 & 27  from 6.30-7.30pm
This class is in Atwood at the Elma Memorial Community Centre. Please bring a towel, yoga mat, and water to drink.
Drop in cost is $10/class. 

Tuesday Night Classes - Monkton
This class is the same format as our Monday night class described above - Circuits!
The remaining Tuesday class dates are May 24, 31 and June 7, & 14
Class is held in Monkton at the Monkton Arena from 7pm-8pm
Please bring a towel, yoga mat, and water to drink.
Drop in cost is $10/class.

Wednesday Night Classes - Listowel
This class is a Stability Ball Class.  Using a Stability Ball/Yoga Ball, we work every muscle in your body.  The Stability Ball Class is low-impact, and can be modified to suit any activity level.  If you are interested in taking this class, but don't have a stability ball, email me and I will bring you a spare.
Remaining class dates are Wednesday May 18, 25 & June 1, 7, 14  from 6.30-7.30pm
Classes are held at St. Mary's School located on Tremaine Avenue in Listowel (next to Listowel Evangelical Missionary Church) pull around the the right hand side of the parking lot and enter through gymnasium door.
Please bring a stability ball, towel, yoga mat, and water to drink.
Drop in cost is $10/class.


Beginners are always welcome!

NORTH PERTH GROUP FITNESS - REVITALIZE YOUR RESOLUTION!
MARCH AND APRIL PROGRAM - 2011

Hello Ladies,

We are now well into the New Year!  I don't know about you, but I have found this winter to be very loooong so far.  Bring on spring!  :)

I've been really enjoying teaching my classes this winter.  I love chatting with all of you at the different classes, hearing your feedback, and watching you all get stronger with each class.   Although it has been cold, we've been really lucky with the weather, and (so far - knock on wood)
I haven't had to reschedule or cancel any classes due to bad weather.  Let's keep our fingers crossed that this continues, and we can make our way into spring without any cancellations at all.

New Program

My new North Perth Group Fitness "Revitalize Your Resolution" Program is on it's way!  It will begin in March.  I have attached the flyer for you to have a look at.  If you like, you are welcome to print it and post it where others who might be interested can check it out.  :)    ... Keep reading after the flyer for new updates and news!

You will notice that there are limited dates in March, due to the Kin Station not being available on Fridays in March because of the Paddyfest Festivities. St. Mary's School is unavailable during March Break, and I'm taking some vacation time in March too....but in April we are back to the exciting, and more regular "3 days per week" schedule.   Hopefully, March will give us some mild weather and you can use those free nights to head out for a walk or walk/jog, or some other fun activity!  :)

I'm excited about a change to the Monday Program.  For those of you who don't like change, don't worry!  I think everyone will enjoy the different concept for our Monday classes and it will add a little more variety to the class.  The exercises are still totally workable for all fitness levels, and I look forward to showing you the new program.  I promise you, this new Monday night class will fly by so quickly, because you will be having so much fun!

Hoop Appeal
I'm excited to be getting my Hoop Appeal trainer certification in March!  Hula Hooping is THE cool new fitness craze, and after watching some hilarious videos on YouTube, I can see why!  It looks like the perfect way to have a great workout while having lots of laughs at the same time.   This hoop fitness class can appeal to all ages, and I'm thinking of running a class for kids aged 10+, probably starting in April sometime.  If this is something you would like to see incorporated into a fitness class for adults, let me know and I'll work it in!

Family Day - Bring Someone for FREE!
As you know, this upcoming Monday February 21st is Family Day!  In honour of Family Day, on Monday, I invite you to bring a female friend or family member to join you for FREE!  This class is the Full Body Fitness Class at the Elma Memorial Community Centre in Atwood, at 6.30pm sharp.  Hope to see you and your friend/family member/neighbour there!  They will need a towel, yoga mat, and some water to drink.

Off Sick - Too much time on my hands!!
Okay, so the last couple of months, my husband has been really sick.  (He's pretty much better now, thank goodness!)  Unfortunately, he has managed to transfer his illness to me, and I've spent the last couple of days on the recliner with my laptop.  I'm feeling MUCH better today than yesterday!  Anyways, I put all that extra time to good use and created a little video to advertise my new program.  It's kind of looong, at almost 5 minutes, but I had fun putting it together!  Hopefully, it's not too boring, and I promise my next video will be much shorter. :)

CLASS DETAILS
Classes start on January 17th and run every Monday, Wednesday and Friday until the end of Feburary.  Class dates and details are all shown on the flyer below.

Studies have proven that in a Group Training atmosphere, people tend to work out harder than those working out alone.  The other members of your group provide a source of accountability and the atmosphere is more energized.  You are more likely to do your very best.   Also, Group Training is scheduled - it's an appointment.  As such, it's more likely that you will make it a priority.  It's also a great way to spend time with your friends while working towards a common goal!

After putting much thought into what fitness and nutrition progamming would be most beneficial to our community as we approach the Holiday Season, I have come up with a new 6 week program that will begin November 1st.  "A New You, Before the New Year!"  The full program includes a Nutrition Seminar, Grocery Store Tour, and 2 Private Nutrition Coaching Sessions (30 minutes each), and Weekly Weigh Ins (if you choose).  As well, it includes 12 Fitness Classes that will boost your metabolism and tone up your body before the Holidays!
 
If you feel like you are already on track with your nutrition, you have the option of registering for the fitness classes only.  The choice is yours!  Fitness classes will be held 2 days per week, Mondays & Wednesdays.  For prices, dates and locations, please see the flyer below.
 
In the Nutrition Seminar, I will discuss ways to MAINTAIN your weight, or LOSE weight during the Holiday Season (wouldn't it be great not to have to lose that extra 5 to 10 pounds in January?!).  I will share recipes that are delicious, yet low-calorie and nutrient dense, that your friends and family will LOVE!  I will also discuss clean-eating, healthy fats, fibre, and share tips that will help you and your family stay healthier during the holiday season.  The Nutrition Seminar will be followed by a Grocery Store Tour of Zehrs.  We will go through the store and I will show you the products that will help you reach your health and nutrition goals.  I will also point out foods to be avoided.

NEW:  September & October Fitness Classes

I have partnered up with North Perth Parks & Recreation to bring you 2 months of fitness classes!  For those of you looking to get some healthy meal ideas, you have the option of adding sample menu plans and a nutrition coaching session.  If your goal is weight loss, you can sign up for a weekly weigh-in.

Better Body Bootcamp
Will resume the Monday September 13 at  6.30pm-7.30pm at the Elma Memorial Community Centre in Atwood.  Be sure to bring your water bottle, a yoga mat, and a towel.  Cost is $10.  Designed for all fitness levels.  Includes warmup and cooldown.  Come out and join us - bring a friend! 

Please note that beginning Monday October 4th, this class will be an On the Ball Stability Ball Class.  Hope you can join us!!

Walk to Run for Beginners...

Have you ever wanted to run? 
It can seem daunting at first, especially if you have never run before, or are feeling out of shape.  Would you like to learn to run?  I can help!

I'm excited to be starting a Beginner's Walk to Run Program in Atwood.  It is an 8-week program, and with some encouragement, some training, and some hard work, at the end of the program, you will be able to run 5km. 

This program runs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday beginning Monday April 5th.  Our last run will be Friday May 28th.  We will run from 6pm-7pm each evening on the Atwood Trail.

UPDATE - APRIL 20, 2010:  Our group of 13 runners are all doing great!  We have just started our third week and are currently running about 80% of a 5k with some scheduled 60 second recovery walks in between.  If you are a runner and would like to join us mid-program, you can email me for details at dawnlinklater@msn.com


What will you need to get started? 
You will need a good pair of running shoes.  A hat that will stay on your head while running!  Water.  Sunglasses.  An open mind and a positive attitude.  Don't forget your sense of humour!

Our group is committed to working towards running 5km.  We run rain or shine!  (The only time we will not run is if there is lightning)It might be a little messy, maybe a little muddy on some runs, but I promise you will there will be some sunshine too.  You will definitely have fun and make new friends with the same fitness goals as you, while learning to run and feeling great about yourself.  All this, while burning calories and increasing your cardiovascular endurance!

Each run will begin with a warm up and end with a stretching/cool down session.

How much does it cost?
The cost of the full 8-week program is $100 per person.
